Working in Saudi Arabia: healthcare and skilled trades

Preparing for a Saudi healthcare or skilled-trades role means checking both professional requirements and the employer's ability to hire for that occupation. Start with the role you will actually perform, rather than a general promise of sponsorship.

Healthcare: classification comes before registration

The Saudi Commission for Health Specialties distinguishes professional classification from registration. Its Mumaris guidance allows classification applications from outside Saudi Arabia; professional registration follows classification and is required before starting professional practice. Check your qualification, experience and professional title against the current SCFHS requirements, including whether qualification study or verification is needed.

Skilled trades: check the occupation and employment permissions

Saudi labour guidance requires non-Saudi workers to have the relevant work permit and an employer relationship. It also makes clear that a work permit does not replace a separate professional licence. Ask the employer to confirm the permitted occupation, any trade assessment and current localisation restrictions before making plans. Do not infer that every technical or construction occupation is open to overseas recruitment.

Questions for your prospective employer

Confirm the legal employer, city or project site, job title and reporting line. Ask for the full pay package, working pattern and accommodation arrangements in writing. For a healthcare role, ask how your SCFHS classification aligns with the duties offered. For a trade role, ask which practical certificates and safety training the site requires. Resolve mismatched titles before accepting.

Requirements can change. Confirm the current rules with the linked authority for your profession and circumstances before paying fees or arranging travel. This is general career preparation, not an individual eligibility assessment.
