Working in the UAE: healthcare and skilled trades

Planning to work in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or another emirate? Start with the exact profession, the place of work and the employer's requirements. A professional licence and permission to work are separate checks.

Healthcare: identify the licensing authority

For nursing, medical and allied health careers, identify the regulator for your intended place of practice before paying for an assessment. Dubai Health Authority uses Sheryan for professional registration and licensing. Its guidance also explains the UAE's unified Professional Qualification Requirements. Check the requirements for your professional title and the authority covering your intended facility; do not assume a Dubai application covers every emirate.

Skilled trades: agree the role and permit route

For an electrician, welder, technician or construction role, ask the employer to confirm the work location, duties, required trade evidence and the applicable permit route. The UAE government describes multiple work-permit types; an overseas recruitment route is different from a temporary or transfer permit. Confirm which authority handles your employment rather than treating a job offer as permission to start work.

Before accepting an overseas offer

Ask for a written breakdown of pay, allowances, hours, accommodation, transport and the proposed workplace. For private-sector overseas hiring, the UAE government explains the official job-offer and employer-led employment process. Use that guidance to check the offer and who handles each step before travelling.

Requirements can change. Confirm the current rules with the linked authority for your profession and circumstances before paying fees or arranging travel. This is general career preparation, not an individual eligibility assessment.
